FOCUS: EMOTIONS PT. 1

The Focus: Emotions competition is devoted to short dramas that evoke strong emotions in the audience. Sorrow mixes with joy, excitement with powerlessness, and sometimes, it brings out some tears. This cinema from all around the world makes us realise that although our cultures often differ, we are very similar when it comes to emotions.

 

Dorlis, dir. Enricka MH (France) 2021, 25’, 16+
Nora, a 15-year-old Martiniquan teenager, has to move to the north of the island with her mother and a 6-year-old sister Mélissa. They are supposed to take care of their grandfather, who is paralyzed after a recent stroke. Being in the man’s presence brings back difficult memories.

 

Not Tomorrow, dir. Amerissa Basta (Greece) 2022, 20’, 16+
Michalis has barely 24 hours to redefine his life and reconcile with his close ones. That same night he meets a girl. He only wishes that the morning never comes. Film presented at Athens IFF. Polish premiere.

 

 

Mate, dir. George-Alex Nagle (Australia) 2021, 33’, 15+
After a long time apart, Jack is about to spend the weekend with his father, John, who lives on the working-class outskirts of Sydney. The time spent together is supposed to rebuild their relationship. Will John be able to overcome his self-destructive nature and regain his son’s love? Film awarded with the International Grand Prix at the Clermont-Ferrand ISFF. Polish premiere.

 

Auxiliaire, dir. Lucas Bacle (France) 2023, 24’, 15+
Marc dreams of becoming a chef. On a daily basis, he takes care of Quentin, a friend with motor disability. One day, he receives an attractive job offer involving a one-year trip. He faces a dilemma that only Quentin can help him solve. Film presented at Clermont-Ferrand ISFF.
