RADIO IN THE CINEMA: 100 YEARS OF POLISH RADIO – RADIO DRAMA WITH RADIO LUBLIN
Polish Radio was founded in 1925, with regular broadcasting beginning a year later. It played an important role in shaping the newly reborn Polish state – serving both as an information medium and as the first mass form of access to culture. Through radio, classical music and literature in the form of radio dramas reached a wide audience. This year, we would like to launch a longer series dedicated to the history of Polish Radio and its connection to the world of cinema. We see radio as one of the elements that influenced the development of film.
Curator of the series: Iga Wójtowicz
We will listen to two radio plays from the archives of Radio Lublin – “Domknięcie” (“Closure”) and “Próba generalna” (“Rehearsal”). The first play is a drama about difficult family relationships, the need to resolve matters from the past, and the sense of hurt that sometimes makes it hard for us to breathe freely. The second is a comedic story about actors preparing for a theater premiere. This contrasting pairing will allow us to conduct a broader analysis of the expressive means used in the plays. We will look for similarities between the language of radio drama and the language of film, and consider which cinematic mechanisms can also be found in radio productions.
Próba generalna, aut. Małgorzata Żurakowska, Wilhelm Raort, 2025, 31’
The broadcast will be preceded by an introduction led by Iga Wójtowicz. After the radio drama, we invite you to join a discussion. The radio play will be in Polish.
