Hotel Pacific, dir. Janusz Majewski (Poland, Czechoslovakia) 1975, 95’, 15+
An adaptation of Henryk Worcell’s pre-war novel “Hotel Pacific”. The story takes place in the early 1930s. A teenage boy, Roman Boryczko, begins working as a dishwasher in the restaurant of the grand “Pacific” Hotel. He quickly wins people’s favor and rises through the ranks. Like his friend, Fryc, he dreams of becoming a waiter, but to achieve this goal he must endure many humiliations – especially from the brutal and spiteful Fornalski.
The film received an award at the PFF in Gdańsk and was also part of the main competition at the Berlin IFF.
