On the occasion of 100th anniversary of Karol Wojtyła’s birthday, we invite you to a talk about Krzysztof Zanussi’s movie From a Far Country. Together, we want to explore how history influenced st. John Paul II and how he influenced history. The meeting will be hosted by prof. Anna Podstawka.

The story of the future pope’s life outlined on the background of the turbulent and tragic events of the 20th century that happened to Poland and Poles. Young Wojtyła takes part in the Way of the Cross in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. The service leaves a permanent mark on the young and sensitive boy’s mind. Few years later, Nazi Germany invades Poland. Karol Wojtyła seeks shelter in Cardinal Sapieha’s house.
