Within 24 minutes

Watching this film, it’s easy to sympathize with the role of the main character and find out what it means to choose between “to love” and “not to be loved”. And what does the word “helpless” mean.

Do I recommend it? Definitely. Although I would not say that this short film became my favorite – writes Viktoryia Dubouskaya from the LFF Media Group about “Dancing on a Cloud”

– I love this atmosphere, such intimacy and the fact that many films from the past years have stuck in my memory. To this day, I think about them. I search for them on the internet and, unfortunately, I can’t find them. From Saturday’s block “Waiting for the happy end”, I liked the Polish “Dancing on a Cloud” the most – says Mrs. Renata, who has been watching films at the Lublin Film Festival for the fifth year.

The woman’s comment stayed in my memory. I will also remember the feelings that this short film aroused in me.

Such a story can often be found in real life. Patryk, the main character, tries to find his place in the complex arrangement of family relationships. His love for Maja and the need to be a father for her two-year-old son Mati push him to make quick and controversial decisions. Participation in drug trafficking, seemingly the only way to raise money for the wedding and stabilization, becomes the flashpoint of the film’s story. When the boy’s biological father appears, the plot takes on a dramatic pace, and viewers are confronted with the question: how much can be sacrificed in the name of love?

Watching “Dancing on a Cloud”, it is easy to sympathize with the role of the main character and learn what it means to choose between “to love” and “not to be loved”, and what the word “helpless” means.

Do you love me? You don’t have to love me, think about Mati – Patryk says to Maja during the conversation about the wedding.

Sadness – what I felt the most when looking at a situation in which the other person’s decision changes the course of someone’s life and turns everything upside down. Patryk, a character played with sensitivity and depth (Michał Jurkowski), becomes a universal figure – a young man lost between duty and desires.

The visual aspects of the film also deserve attention. The director Michał Mieszczyk gives the film an almost fairy-tale atmosphere, contrasting the title clouds – a symbol of love, dreams and the first dance of a young couple – with the harsh reality. It is not surprising that the film won an award at the Hommage à Kieślowski International Film Festival.

Do I recommend it? Definitely. Although I won’t say that “Dancing on a Cloud” became my favorite. It is simply worth seeing how in 24 minutes you can present a colorful cross-section of emotions and show poverty and extreme. And the irreversibility of the decision.
