“Milonga” is a melancholic and complicated, but at the same time funny movie, which does not minimize the subjects brought up there – Kamil Janas from the Lublin Film Festival’s media group wrote about the portrayal of Laura Gonzalez after the polish premiere of the movie during the Lublin Film Festival.
Milonga is a variant of Argentine Tango, but also a place where one performs this dance. There’s a lot to expect after hearing such a title, especially considering the peculiar energy which accompanies tango.
This movie, however, presents the opposite. There’s no actio, similar in pace to that of the Argentine Tango. Instead of that, we can see a slow plot, which gradually roughs out the portrait of the main character. This character is Rosa, who struggles after losing her husband and has a bad relationship with her son.
The lonely woman has to face her problems and bounce back. We can watch her daily grind and how she deals with the new reality. Will she bring back her inner milonga, hidden deep inside her? That’s the question that the viewers have to answer by themselves.
“Milonga” is a melancholic and complicated, but at the same time funny movie, which does not minimize the subjects brought up there.
Paulina Garcia is great at portraying the main character, Rosa, who always tries to put on a brave face, which often gives a bittersweet effect, making the audience laugh more than once. However, let’s not get misled by those humorous elements, because there are also Rosa’s problems behind them. The new situation is hard to accept for her, especially at her age, as she already felt kind of stable. Rosa has to face a challenge which she wasn’t ready for, but maybe that’s what she needed?
The movie directed by Laura Gonzalez has been screened in Poland for the first time. I think that both me and the majority of the audience appreciated its appearance during the Lublin Film Festival.
“Milonga” is one of the eight movies which take part in the contest for the medium- and full-length feature films with a definitely unique creative approach – Fokus: Storytelling.
